Red Sun

Red Sun is the long-running Chinese takeaway on Louth Road, the main spine through Scartho running south out of Grimsby town centre. It works from a small shop unit on the village section of the road, and is consistently picked out by Scartho regulars as their preferred Chinese in an area that carries half a dozen others within a short drive.

The menu is the familiar Anglo-Cantonese set — chow mein, curry, sweet and sour, satay, crispy duck pancakes, set meals for two and three — and the kitchen runs to standard rather than to anything ambitious; the appeal is that what comes out of the wok arrives quickly, in honest quantities and at a fair price. Reviews on TripAdvisor and Restaurantji repeatedly land on the same theme: customers comparing Red Sun against the other Scartho options and putting it at the top of the list. The shop carries a strong food hygiene rating.

Hours run late — into the evening through to roughly 11pm — with delivery covering the immediate Scartho streets and collection running alongside. The Louth Road position picks up passing trade from the village as well as repeat ordering from the surrounding housing.
