Duka Ya Tambu

Duka Ya Tambu on Loughborough Road has a remarkable history on this stretch of north Leicester. Founded by Mr and Mrs Pandya after they emigrated from Nairobi, Kenya, the original shop opened in 1981 and became known for its chips, chip butties, burgers, jacket potatoes, and the legendary pili pili hot sauce — a recipe the family brought from East Africa. After 44 years, the Pandyas retired in 2013, and the business has since been relaunched as DYT2 by their youngest daughter Leena, who has retained the original recipes. The pili pili sauce remains the defining dish: fiery, fragrant, and unlike anything else in Leicester.
