Yadgar Take Away Food Shops

Yadgar has been feeding Govanhill and the wider Glasgow South Side from its Calder Street premises since 1981, making it one of the oldest continuously running Pakistani restaurants in the city. The Anwar family opened the original takeaway shop and, more than a decade ago, expanded into the adjacent premises to create a café-style dining room — modest in appearance but serious in culinary intent. The karahi here, particularly the gosht karahi on the bone, is a point of reference for many Glasgow curry enthusiasts; the food blog Curry-Heute has ranked it among the city's best on multiple visits. Samosas, pakora and tandoori chicken pull in afternoon visitors, while the dhal and nihari draw those who know what to ask for. Govanhill's Pakistani community provides a natural home crowd, but Yadgar draws from across the city.
