Tao Shawlands

The premises at Kilmarnock Road in Shawlands have housed a succession of Asian restaurants, most recently rebranded as Lychee Oriental Southside in April 2025 — part of Jimmy Lee's Lychee Oriental group, which expanded to the South Side after establishing itself elsewhere in Glasgow. The kitchen serves Chinese, Thai and Japanese dishes from a prominent Kilmarnock Road address at the centre of Shawlands' independent restaurant quarter. Before the Lychee rebrand, the location traded as Salt and Chilli Oriental from 2021 and before that as Tao. The current Lychee Oriental Southside takes reservations and offers delivery, with a menu that spans the breadth of East Asian cooking — dim sum, Thai curries, sushi-adjacent dishes — rather than specialising in a single cuisine. A significant upgrade in ambition for this Kilmarnock Road address.
