Jaconellis

Jaconelli's is one of Glasgow's most storied Italian cafes, trading on Maryhill Road since 1924 and still using the same ice cream recipe that Mario Jaconelli first put together a century ago. The art deco interior — unchanged alcove seating, a retro aesthetic that has never needed refreshing — gives the place its particular character, and it has not gone unnoticed: Trainspotting filmed here, as did Carla's Song with Robert Carlyle and Tutti Frutti with Robbie Coltrane. The ice cream with raspberry sauce is the signature, but the cafe also serves breakfasts, hot rolls, and coffee to a loyal Maryhill clientele who have been coming for generations. The Glasgow Guardian marked the centenary in 2024, and an Early Day Motion was tabled in Westminster to mark the occasion. A Glasgow institution in the truest sense.
