About Snakatak Take Away Food Shops

Snakatak is the daytime sandwich-bar fixture on St Mary Street in Kirkcudbright, opposite the row of artists'-colony houses that thread between MacLellan's Castle and the harbour at the head of the Dee estuary. It trades morning into mid-afternoon rather than evening, which makes it the natural lunch stop for walkers cutting through the town between Broughton House and the harbour, summer visitors heading on to Threave or Dundrennan, and the office and shop workers who keep the burgh ticking out of season. The board is built around made-to-order filled rolls, baguettes and ciabattas — the chicken-bacon-avocado ciabatta with pesto and mixed leaves and the cheese-and-onion quiche both come up in repeat reviews on Google and Restaurant Guru — alongside soup, sausage rolls, traybakes and counter cakes. The unit is small and most trade is takeaway, although there is limited seating in season. The family-run feel comes through strongly in reviews, with regulars naming staff and tipping new visitors towards specific weekly specials. Kirkcudbright's tourist trade swings hard between summer and winter and Snakatak adjusts hours accordingly, but the early-to-mid-afternoon pattern has held for years and is one of the more reliable lunch options in the centre of the town.
