Real Fish and Chips

Real Fish & Chips sits roughly halfway up Upper Wickham Lane on the long retail strip that runs north from Welling High Street through East Wickham toward Plumstead. The shop trades as a small independent chippy on a stretch that is now mostly dominated by halal grills, South Asian groceries and pizza counters — a chippy holding the line is increasingly unusual along this parade. The premises has carried the same chip-shop trade for years and has at points listed under variations of the name (Marino Fish Bar appears on older Yelp records for the same address) before settling as Real Fish & Chips.

The menu is the standard British chippy set: battered cod and haddock fried to order, chips, jumbo sausages, saveloys, pies (steak-and-kidney, chicken-and-mushroom and meat-and-potato), a handful of southern-fried chicken pieces, plus the usual sides of pickled eggs and curry sauce. Reviews are modest but consistent — generous portions, crisp batter, traditional rather than gourmet.
