The Fen

The Fen is the Chinese takeaway on the Blackfen Road parade, sitting near the cluster of shops that has served the centre of Blackfen since the suburban high street was laid out in the 1930s. Blackfen — the inter-war housing development between Sidcup and Welling — was built around the parades on Blackfen Road and Westwood Lane, and The Fen has worked the same corner of that parade for years, drawing its trade from the surrounding residential streets running up to Danson Park and down to The Oval shopping centre.

The menu is the familiar British-Cantonese list: crispy aromatic duck with pancakes, sweet-and-sour chicken or pork in batter, beef in black bean sauce, salt-and-pepper ribs, chicken chow mein, special fried rice, foo yung and curry-house dishes, alongside set meals priced for two, three and four diners. The dish most often singled out by customer feedback on the platforms is the salt-and-pepper ribs; chicken chow mein and the sweet-and-sour chicken balls also feature regularly in reviews. The shop runs a fast turnaround on collection orders and a delivery service across Blackfen, Welling, Lamorbey and the southern edge of East Wickham. Card and cash both accepted.
