About British Raj
The London Road address in Greenhithe historically traded as The British Raj — a long-running Indian restaurant and takeaway on the main road running west out of Greenhithe towards Stone and Dartford — and the same unit now operates under new management as The Cardamom (under the registered name Raj of Spice Limited). The structural model is largely unchanged: a sit-in Indian dining room with reservation-and-table service alongside a working takeaway trade, debit-card payment accepted, with Wi-Fi for diners.
The menu carries through the Anglo-Indian repertoire that the previous British Raj brand was known for in the area — tandoori grills, baltis, biryanis, korma to vindaloo, chef's specials, side vegetables, breads, and a set-menu option for two — and the takeover has not stripped out the regional Bangladeshi specials that long-term customers expect. The dining room is set up for family weekend bookings as well as the standard weekday early-evening covers.
Greenhithe itself is the small Thames-side town immediately west of the Dartford Crossing, with Bluewater shopping centre and the train station nearby. The London Road parade where this restaurant sits is one of the historic Greenhithe shopping strips — north of the railway line, on the older edge of the town rather than the redeveloped Crossways side — and a curry-house at this point has been part of the local Friday-night routine for years across both the British Raj and Cardamom eras.
