Tasty African Food

Tasty African Food is the Nigerian and West-African takeaway on Gilbert Road in central Belvedere, a few doors from Jamuna Tandoori and a short walk from the Nuxley Road parade that runs through the Thames-side town between Erith and Abbey Wood. It is one of the very few specifically West-African kitchens trading in this corner of south-east London, and serves a community that has grown around Belvedere's post-2000 housing redevelopment on the former Erith Marshes industrial sites to the north.

The menu is built around the Nigerian home-cooking repertoire — jollof rice, fried rice with mixed vegetables and prawns, ofada rice, egusi and ogbono soups with assorted meats, eba and pounded yam to accompany, ewa agoyin with stew, moin moin (the steamed bean pudding), suya skewers and steamed catfish or tilapia — with a separate snack and pastry counter for chin chin, puff puff and meat pies. Restaurant Guru and Google rate the shop at 4 out of 5 with the jollof rice and the steamed fish singled out repeatedly.
