Shapla Tandoori

Shapla Tandoori has become one of the most praised Indian restaurants in East Lothian, with TripAdvisor reviewers describing it as 'right up there with the best' and at least one calling it probably the finest Indian food they have ever eaten. The kitchen produces richly flavoured pathia, beautifully spiced biryani and a diverse menu that includes strong vegetarian options, all at prices described as very reasonable. The restaurant doubles as a sit-down dining room and a busy takeaway, and at peak times on weekends orders need to be placed well in advance. Dunbar's setting on the East Lothian coast, close to John Muir's birthplace and the long sandy beach, gives Shapla a town worth visiting in its own right, and the food is more than good enough to be a destination in itself.
