Quality Chop House
88-94 Farringdon Road Clerkenwell, London, West London, EC1R 3EA
Quality Chop House at 88-94 Farringdon Road in Clerkenwell EC1 is a Victorian dining room from 1869, its frontage still inscribed "progressive working class caterer." The Nudge lists it as one of the best City-area restaurants. Hardens praises "genuinely old-fashioned British cooking in a beautifully preserved Victorian dining room." The original tiered wooden booths survive intact — the most historically atmospheric interior in the area. The menu is built on British produce: confit potatoes roasted in goose fat (a cult dish that diners travel across London to eat), chops and steaks, devilled kidneys on toast, potted shrimps and seasonal game. The wine list is exceptional and intelligently curated. A wine shop, butcher and charcuterie are part of the operation. Revived in 2012, it has been acclaimed by Hardens, Time Out and The Guardian ever since.
