Ugly Dumpling Spitalfields

Ugly Dumpling is a popular Pan-Asian dumpling restaurant from chef Phil Chaykin, located in the vibrant Old Truman Brewery complex on the Brick Lane and Hanbury Street corner in Spitalfields. The concept -- playfully self-deprecating about the sometimes imperfect appearance of handmade dumplings -- has built a devoted following for its accessible, flavoursome approach to Asian dumplings, baos and sharing plates in one of East London's most distinctive settings.

The menu centres on handmade dumplings in a variety of styles -- steamed, pan-fried and in soup -- with fillings including pork and ginger, prawn, mushroom and truffle, and seasonal specials. Alongside dumplings: steamed and crispy baos, Korean fried chicken, edamame, wonton noodle soup and a selection of vegan options. The Old Truman Brewery is one of E1's great social spaces, with regular events, markets and cultural programming alongside the restaurants. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
