About The English Restaurant
The English Restaurant is a stalwart of the Spitalfields dining scene, occupying a handsome Georgian premises on Brushfield Street directly opposite the entrance to Old Spitalfields Market. Opened in 2003, the restaurant was one of the first to champion traditional English cooking in the area, serving classic British dishes in a warm, unpretentious setting that makes a refreshing counterpoint to the trendier openings on the same street.
The menu is an unapologetic celebration of British food: potted shrimps, smoked salmon, kedgeree, fish and chips, steak and kidney pie, bread and butter pudding and a proper English breakfast served in the mornings. Seasonal specials make good use of British produce throughout the year. Afternoon tea is also served. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant is particularly popular with visitors to Spitalfields Market and Liverpool Street.
