The Culpeper

The Culpeper is a well-loved Spitalfields gastropub with rooms, a rooftop kitchen garden and one of the most appealing interiors on Commercial Street. Named after the 17th-century herbalist and apothecary Nicholas Culpeper, who lived and practised near this very spot in Spitalfields, the pub opened in 2015 and quickly established itself as a neighbourhood anchor for the local community, with five boutique rooms above for overnight guests.

The kitchen serves modern British food using produce grown on the rooftop garden where possible, with a menu that changes regularly to reflect the seasons. Sunday roasts are a highlight, as is the weekend brunch. A well-chosen selection of craft beers, natural wines and classic cocktails keeps the bar busy throughout the week. The rooftop terrace opens in summer and is one of the best outdoor spaces in E1. Open daily from noon, kitchen serving lunch and dinner. A genuine neighbourhood pub with real quality in the kitchen.
