Fortune Fried Chicken

Fortune Fried Chicken is one of the most exciting street food openings in Spitalfields in 2025 -- a Thai-style fried chicken concept that opened in Old Spitalfields Market in May 2025, born from a collaboration between two legends of the London food scene. Harneet Baweja, the restaurateur behind Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded Gunpowder on White's Row, has teamed up with executive chef Jane Alty -- named in Time Out's list of London's coolest female chefs, founder of The Begging Bowl in Peckham and former executive chef of the acclaimed Som Saa in Shoreditch. Between them, they bring exceptional Thai cooking credentials to one of London's most visited market sites.

The concept is inspired by the fried chicken stalls of Bangkok's streets: chicken marinated overnight in a blend of soy, fish sauce, garlic and coriander, then coated in rice flour and slow deep-fried to produce a thin, extra-crispy skin around a tender, juicy interior. The menu features Bangkok-style fried chicken burgers with som tam dressings and pickles, crispy wings, larb salads with fried chicken and Thai basil fried rice bowls.
