About Ricos
Rico's on Annan Road is the long-running family-run Italian counter that has been in the town since the late 1980s. The shop is on the long eastern arterial that carries the A75 trade out of central Dumfries toward Annan and Gretna, and the format is a daytime hot-and-cold rolls counter built around breakfast service and lunchtime takeaway rather than evening kebab-and-pizza trade — different from the same operator's later English Street shop, which leans more pizza-pasta.
The menu is led by hot and cold filled rolls — bacon, sausage, square-sliced (Lorne) sausage, black pudding, tattie scone, egg and the standard Scottish breakfast-roll combinations — with paninis, baked potatoes, soups and salads through the lunchtime window. Pizza and pasta dishes are also on the board and the kitchen pitches everything as cooked from scratch. Reviews on Restaurant Guru and Google settle in the 4.5-out-of-five range with regulars citing breakfast rolls and quick service rather than refinement. Trading is morning-to-mid-afternoon seven days a week, with the shop closing earlier than most central-Dumfries evening takeaways.
