About UPOs Fish Bar
UPO's is a family-run fish and chip shop on the High Street through Woodville, the old pottery and brick-making village a couple of miles east of Swadlincote on the Burton road. It has traded on this site for around a decade and built a strong local reputation — the Food Standards Agency rated it 5 (Very Good) on its 2023 inspection, and reviews on Google and Yell consistently mention freshness and made-to-order cooking.
The fryers run all day from mid-morning through to late evening, which is unusual for this stretch — most Swadlincote chippies are evening-only — and that long day suits the lunchtime trade from the pottery industrial units and the school-run pickups. The menu goes beyond standard fish suppers: alongside cod, haddock, scampi and the usual fish-shop sides there are stone-baked pizzas, doner and shish kebabs, naan wraps, southern-fried chicken, pies, burgers and a value-meal section aimed at families ordering for several people.
It is a busy parade-unit takeaway with no sit-in seating; orders go out as collection or local delivery into Woodville, Hartshorne and the Swadlincote side of the A511. Within the Swad cluster it is regularly named as one of the more dependable chippies — the kind of shop that gets called "always fresh" in the Google write-ups.
