About Kathmandu Gurkha II Restaurant Ripley
Kathmandu Gurkha is the Ripley sister-branch of the well-known Clay Cross Indian and Nepalese restaurant, opened on Church Street in the centre of Ripley a short walk from the Market Place. The original Clay Cross site, run by ex-British Army Gurkha soldier Prem Bahadur Malla of the 2nd Royal Gurkha Rifles, marked its fifteenth anniversary in the trade in 2024 and is a regular fixture in the Derbyshire Times' restaurant write-ups; the Ripley branch trades to the same kitchen template.
The menu is the strongest point of difference from the other Ripley Indians — a proper Nepalese section sits alongside the conventional Indian curry list, with momo dumplings, Gurkha-style lamb and chicken dishes, sekuwa skewers and house specials from chef Bishnu listed next to balti, biryani, korma and tandoori standards. The dining room seats around 60 and offers full table service; collection is available by phone and delivery runs through Just Eat across central Ripley.
It is the more ambitious end of Ripley's Indian scene and worth booking on a Friday or Saturday evening rather than walking in.
