Green Forest

Green Forest is a small Chinese takeaway tucked away on Maple Avenue, on one of the quieter residential streets behind Nottingham Road in Ripley. It is the sort of neighbourhood Chinese where the regulars know the staff by sight and the trade comes mainly from the houses around Waingroves, Marehay and Upper Hartshay rather than the central-Ripley pub crowd.

The menu is the familiar Cantonese-takeaway sheet plus some properly worked house specials — aromatic crispy duck, sesame prawn toast, satay chicken on skewers, Four Seasons, Happy Family, Wandering Dragon — alongside the standard chicken in black bean, sweet and sour, foo yung and chow mein sections. Delivery covers Ripley, Codnor, Butterley, Waingroves, Upper Hartshay, Peasehill and Marehay. The shop is closed on Tuesdays, open Monday and Wednesday through Sunday from around five through to ten.

Reviewers consistently praise the freshness and the staff manner. For residents on the south-east side of Ripley away from the Market Place clusters, it is the closest local Chinese and the regulars stick with it.
