New China Chinese Take Away

New China is a Cantonese-British takeaway on Firs Parade, the small precinct of shops that sits just behind Matlock's Crown Square and the Sainsbury's car park. It has been on the parade for years and is one of the easier Matlock takeaways to park near in the evening, which regulars regularly mention as a reason they keep going back.

The menu is the long-form Chinese takeaway list — set meals, house specials, chow mein and singapore noodles, sweet and sour, curry, chop suey, salt and pepper dishes and a sizeable starter section. Chicken balls and prawn crackers get singled out in reviews as large and good value, and orders are usually ready in about fifteen minutes from the small open-counter kitchen.

Reviews are mixed — the food is generally described as tasty and hot, but a few customers flag portion sizes as smaller than they remember and prices as a touch higher than the cheaper takeaways further down Dale Road. It is collection-only, with no in-house delivery, and trades evenings only.
