Tasty Snacks

Tasty Snacks — also signed as Angie's Tasty Snacks — is a small independent cafe on Hallam Fields Road, the residential road that runs through the south-eastern edge of the Kirk Hallam estate in Ilkeston. It is a proper community-cafe operation, run by Angie, and it has built a long-standing local following on home-cooked food at low prices.

The board runs the standard British greasy-spoon plus a few extras: all-day breakfasts in three sizes, sausage cobs and bacon rolls in the morning, jacket potatoes with the usual fillings, chips and gravy or curry sauce, homemade specials of the day — chilli, hotpot, sausage and mash — and a small cakes counter for the afternoon trade. There is a small kebab-style range, with donner served on chips or in a wrap, for the lunchtime hot orders. Coffee, tea and cans are cash-and-carry priced.

Trading is daytime only, with breakfast through to early afternoon the main window. Cash is the standard payment method, and the cafe runs a small outdoor seating area for customers when the weather allows. Takeaway and short-radius delivery are both offered for orders called in by phone. For Kirk Hallam, it is one of the dependable family-run lunch stops.
