About Nibbles Sandwich Bar
Nibbles is a small independent sandwich bar at the top end of Bath Street, the pedestrianised shopping street that forms the spine of central Ilkeston. It works the daytime trade — office workers, shoppers, builders coming off the surrounding sites — with a made-to-order sandwich and roll counter that runs through the morning and into the early afternoon.
The counter offers the standard British sandwich-bar repertoire: cobs, baps, sliced-bread sandwiches, jacket potatoes and a small set of hot pies and pastries. Fillings work to any combination customers ask for — bacon and egg in the morning, ham and salad, tuna mayo, cheese and pickle, chicken tikka, sausage and onion — and the regular offer board carries a sub-£4 deal of the day. There is a small drinks fridge and a hot drinks counter with tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
Trading is morning through to mid-afternoon, six days a week, with Sunday closure typical of the town-centre breakfast-and-lunch shops on Bath Street. Nibbles works almost entirely on walk-in and collection orders from the surrounding streets, with phone orders for office buffets and birthday spreads handled at the counter. For people working around the Market Place, it is one of the dependable lunch-time stops.
