New Marble

New Marble is a Chinese and Cantonese takeaway on Park Road, a short residential street tucked just off the south-western edge of central Ilkeston. It is the smaller sister to the long-running Marble operation in Cotmanhay, and reviewers on Tripadvisor regularly nominate it as one of the best Chinese takeaways in town.

The kitchen runs a properly broad menu: satay starters, roast duck Cantonese style, king prawn dishes through the sweet-and-sour and black bean sauces, char sui, spare ribs, chop suey, foo yung and chow mein across the standard meats. The sweet-and-sour pork balls in crispy batter, the salt-and-chilli ribs and the crispy aromatic duck with pancakes are the most repeat-ordered. Family set meals for two, three and four work for household orders and keep the price-per-head down.

Trading is evening only, opening at five and running through to around eleven Tuesday to Thursday, with later closing on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays — closed on Mondays. Delivery covers Ilkeston, Cotmanhay, Shipley, Kirk Hallam, West Hallam and Awsworth. Most orders come by phone for collection or the standard short-radius delivery; reviews repeatedly mention the consistency over the years.
