McTurk has been running on Morledge since 1982 and is the closest thing central Derby has to a kebab-shop institution — three generations of student and post-pub diners have grown up on it. The kitchen runs donner, chicken tikka, shish and kofta kebabs along with the donner-and-chips-on-naan that the shop is best known for, with the meat seasoned in-house and grilled to order rather than held warm. McTurk has been named best kebab in Derbyshire in regional awards and consistently picks up positive reviews on the strength of the meat, the portion sizes and the speed of service from the counter. The Morledge spot keeps long late-night hours, with the kitchen running into the small hours midweek and pushing later at weekends to catch the post-club trade walking back through the centre.
