Bamboo Cottage Chinese Takeaway

Bamboo Cottage is the long-running Chinese takeaway on Water Street in central Bakewell, opposite the row of independent shops that runs down towards the river and the Square. It has been the town's main Cantonese-British takeaway for years and is one of only a handful of evening hot-food options in central Bakewell once the daytime cafes close.

The menu is the long Cantonese takeaway list — set dinners, house specials, chow mein, curry, chop suey, sweet and sour, salt-and-pepper dishes, plus the usual run of crispy starters, prawn toast and spring rolls. It is collection-only with no in-house delivery, and orders are usually ready in fifteen to twenty minutes from the small shop. The customer reviews that appear on takeaway aggregators are short but consistently positive on food quality, with chicken balls and the house chow mein the most regularly named dishes.

Trading is evenings only — closed at lunchtime and through Sundays in line with the town's shopping-week pattern — with later opening on Fridays and Saturdays. Pricing is in line with other small-town Peak District Chinese takeaways.
