Miss Daisy's Fish and Kebab House sits on The Green in Swanwick, the small parade of shops at the heart of the village that runs down towards Pentrich. It's a traditional fish-and-chip kitchen with a kebab counter alongside — cod and haddock fried to order, chips, fishcakes, pies and saveloys on the chippy side, donner and shish wraps with the usual salads and chilli sauce on the kebab side, plus burgers and a run of southern fried chicken.

For Swanwick it's the village fish shop rather than a destination, and the trade comes mainly from the surrounding terraces and Leabrooks. It sits alongside the Oriental Chef Chinese a few doors away on the same parade, which gives The Green a serviceable two-shop takeaway core. Collection is the easier route — Swanwick streets are tightly packed and the parade is the natural pick-up point. Worth knowing if you're passing through the Amber Valley villages on the back roads between Alfreton and Heanor.
