Crystal House

Crystal House — listed on Uber Eats as New Crystal House — is the long-running Chinese takeaway on Tibshelf's High Street, opposite the village's small run of shops. The menu is a comprehensive Cantonese list: roast duck with mushrooms, sweet and sour chicken balls, Singapore-style rice noodles, egg fried rice, and a full sweep of the satay, kung po and curry-sauce family dishes that working pit villages like Tibshelf have been ordering for decades.

Reviews on TripAdvisor and the regional directories run very positively, with regulars singling out the generous portions, the complimentary snacks and drinks that go in with bigger orders, and the consistently on-time delivery. The shop closes on Tuesdays and trades evenings only the rest of the week. For Tibshelf itself it's the de facto Chinese, with the run down to Newton, Westhouses and the nearer Blackwell streets all within delivery range. Collection from the High Street counter is the simplest option for villagers within walking distance.
