Jims Golden Fry

Jim's Golden Fry is the traditional fish-and-chip shop on Crag Head Road in the Pelton Fell area west of Chester-le-Street — and one of the more carefully-credentialled chippies in this part of Durham. The head frier has completed the National Federation of Fish Friers professional course; the shop uses premium Icelandic boneless skinless cod, English potatoes and traditional beef-dripping chip-frying. A secondary menu covers pizza, kebab, burger and chicken.

The classic chippy hours are split lunch-and-dinner: Monday to Saturday 11:00-13:45 and again 16:00-22:15, with Sundays closed. The shop runs its own ordering site at jims-goldenfry.co.uk. Sit-in seating plus collection from Crag Head Road.
