Beedles Chippy

Beedle's Chippy is one of Bishop Auckland's longest-established food shops, opened on Oaklea Terrace off Cockton Hill Road in 1991 and quickly recognised as one of the premium chippies in the north-east — by 2005 the shop had broken into a published top-ten in the country. A full refit in 2017 installed a high-efficiency Florigo frying range and modernised the till and card-payment side without disturbing the counter format that the regulars expect. The board runs the proper traditional fish-and-chip range alongside a pizza section, daily specials and a children's happy-meal option, with deliveries running from four in the afternoon Monday to Saturday using the shop's own marketed Beedle Bomber delivery car. The chippy also operates an outside-catering arm under the On The Road banner, taking the mobile van out to events, weddings and christenings across the wider north-east — an unusually broad operation for an independent fish-and-chip business of this size. The Oaklea Terrace position keeps the shop on the residential side of Cockton Hill Road just south of the railway crossing, giving the operation a steady local catchment without competing directly with the Newgate Street takeaways for town-centre footfall. Closed Sundays for delivery.
