The Viking

The Viking chip shop on Gallowgate Street in Largs takes its name from the town's most famous historical event: the 1263 Battle of Largs, when Alexander III's forces repelled a Norwegian fleet on the Firth of Clyde shoreline below. A large Viking statue stands outside, making the shop one of the more recognisable takeaway fronts on the Ayrshire coast. The kitchen covers fish and chips, pizzas, burgers and haggis, with oven-baked pizzas singled out by some reviewers as outstanding. Restaurantji gives it 82 reviews and Sluurpy a score of 74. Gallowgate Street runs inland from the seafront, where the Vikingar! visitor centre formally commemorates Largs' Norse legacy.
