About Candys

Candy's is a long-running Montrose sandwich and deli counter on Murray Street, the long thoroughfare that runs north from the town centre toward the railway station. The shop has traded from the same parade since 1996, and over nearly three decades has become one of the daytime fixtures for Montrose office workers, tradesmen and shoppers wanting a made-to-order roll, baguette or wrap rather than a chain-supermarket meal deal.

The counter is sandwich-led — a long row of fillings made up while you wait — but the kitchen also runs a daily rotation of homemade soup, stovies (the Scottish leftover-tatties-and-mince dish that's a Montrose lunchtime staple), bacon rolls in the morning and tray-bakes through the day. Reviewers single out the spicy beef wrap and the in-house sauces for praise, and the deli is mentioned regularly on Montrose community pages as a reliable lunch stop. Trade is daytime only — open through the morning and lunch trade and closed by mid-afternoon — so it does not compete with the evening takeaway scene further down Murray Street.

Murray Street sits between Montrose's High Street and the railway-station end of town, on the working spine of the burgh.
