Tak Awa

Tak Awa is a small Cantonese carry-out on Clepington Road, the long residential artery running across north-central Dundee between the city centre and the inner suburbs. The shop trades from a corner unit close to the Strathmartine Road junction, in a parade that has carried a string of Chinese takeaways for decades. Locals know the spelling as a deliberate phonetic Scots-English nod to the Dundee accent — "tak awa" — which has made it one of the more remembered shop names in the city.

The menu is full-list Cantonese carry-out: chow mein, fried rice, curry sauces, salt and pepper chicken, sweet and sour, foo yung, chop suey and set meals built for two or more. The shop trades evenings only across the week and has held its position as one of the default Chinese order lines for the Clepington Road residential closes. The most recent published Food Standards inspection (21 September 2023) returned a Pass result. Reviews on the aggregator pages are mixed in the way busy local Chinese carry-outs tend to be, but the longevity of the operation and the recognisability of the name carry the trade forward.
