About Spice Hut
Spice Hut occupied a small double-frontage parade on Cleghorn Street, in the dense tenement quarter of Polepark west of the city centre. The neighbourhood sits between Lochee Road and the Blackness streets, a mix of older Dundee housing and short-let student flats that has historically supported a string of Indian, kebab and pizza takeaways within walking distance of each other. Spice Hut traded across all three categories — Indian curries, balti dishes and tandoori specialities on the main side of the menu, with kebabs, burgers and a pizza list bolted on for the late evening trade.
Customer reviews from its trading peak ran into the hundreds, with an average sitting around four out of five and praise concentrated on the speed of delivery and the spicing on the chicken tikka masala and balti specials. The shop's current trading status is uncertain — at least one directory lists it as permanently closed, while others still list standard takeaway hours — so anyone planning a visit should call ahead. For the surrounding closes it was for a long time one of the default evening order lines in the Polepark and Cleghorn streets.
